The Tour

Get an overview of Milan and admire its astonishing architectures with an e-bike ride: an immersive experience designed and created by Pirelli CYCL-e around™ and the Milanese bike tour company Bike & The City®, both born and raised in this very city and yearning to reveal its wonders in a sustainable way.

The e-bike tour offers the opportunity to discover, together with an expert guide, the multitude of concepts and architectural styles that make up the Milanese identity, by encountering many internationally renowned fellow architects through their remarkable projects and buildings.

While you’ll still cover most historical venues like Duomo or Sforza Castle, the narrative of this tour is focused on the XX century, incredible years for Milan, and the present: a hectic era of transformation and renaissance for the city. Green spaces, new squares, more and more cycle lanes and one of the most innovative skylines in Europe.

The route

A UNIQUE IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE

Milan is a laboratory, no doubt the most important one of modern and contemporary architecture in Italy, and we are eager to show you why.

Stage 1

Torre Velasca

Our ride starts from the ancient Ticinese district at the site of Bike & the City, from where we saddle up on a premium design and technology e-bike. We head to the brutalist Torre Velasca by BBPR, a very controversial landmark of the city.

Stage 2

Arengario, Duomo, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II

Cycling beside the University of Milan and former Hospital Ca’ Granda, we reach piazza Fontana where the first public fountain by Giuseppe Piermarini was built in Milan, and then the Duomo square where we focus on the building designed by Griffini, Magistretti, Muzio, and Portaluppi and recently renovated by the Rota Group: Palazzo Arengario, now Museo del Novecento (XX Century Museum). This stop gives us also the permission to make a journey back in the beginning of XX century imagining us sipping our original Campari Seltz or Negroni at Camparino where professionals, artists and intellectuals were used to stop and drink and have a small chat at the end of the day, in the magic hours of Aperitivo.

Stage 3

Piazza del Liberty, Apple

Back to contemporary time, we ride thorough the shopping pedestrian street of Corso Vittorio Emanuele and stop to admire the new life of Piazza del Liberty with the great work of Norman & Foster studio, combining commercial architecture (Apple Store) and urban décor.

Stage 4

Palestro, Villa Necchi

With San Babila at our back, we finally enter the district of Silence with its astonishing Nouveau and Eclectic Architectures and we stop in the XX century domestic architectural masterpiece Villa Necchi Campiglio, an icon of the thirties déco, for a break in its enchanting and quiet garden. Here, immersed in the fascinating atmosphere of the city between the two World Wars, you can enjoy a light snack in the delightful café of the Villa, with its dehors and swimming pool.

Stage 5

Piazza della Repubblica, Pirellone and Stazione Centrale

Climbing on Bastioni di Porta Venezia on our execellent e-bikes, we will head to the new area of Porta Nuova not before seeing one of the first skyscrapers of the city, the so-called Pirellone by Gio Ponti.

Stage 6

Porta Nuova and Corso Como

From now on you will have the impression to visit another era of the city, even if you will feel the Milanese personality as a fil rouge: Palazzo Lombardia, Biblioteca degli Alberi, Unicredit tower, Bosco verticale, Fondazione Feltrinelli, a paradise for architecture passionate.

Stage 7

Castello Sforzesco, CityLife

After a quick stop in Simplon Park to see the Triennale and Torre Branca by Gio Ponti again, we will ride towards the CityLife new neighborhood with the architectures of Zaha Hadid, Daniel Libeskind, Arata Isozaki. Time to go back to the meeting point with the camera full of photo and emotions.
